Intramedullary Nailing of the Humerus: Multilock vs Traditional Techniques

 

Intramedullary humeral nailing is a common method to treat upper arm fractures. Traditional curved nails, inserted from the side, avoid the joint surface but may irritate the rotator cuff and provide limited stability for complex fractures. This can slow recovery and sometimes require additional surgery. The newer MultiLock straight nails solve many of these issues by entering centrally, reducing rotator cuff damage, and offering multiple locking options to secure tricky bone fragments. They also allow rotator cuff repair through screw holes. MultiLock nails often mean less pain, quicker healing, and faster return of shoulder function, especially in older patients.
